Fugues

Using the circular form, I interweave fragments and textures into a contrapuntal composition of a basic structure, consisting of themes stated successively in different voices. In these I aspire to create a an experience of harmony while provoking a dreamlike state of altered consciousness in the viewer. —Ilona Sochynsky

In the Fugue Series, Sochynsky explores the experience of her collected assemblages by fragmenting ocular space through portals. This limit in scope forces the viewer to experience what is normally an expansive vision into small singular 'bites.' These are a treat, each unto themselves but also when hung as clusters or patterned groupings—one cannot have enough of Fugues!
